It makes sense to me. I have never ever understood why trainers tell you "if you don't eat enough you won't lose weight" Surely if I eat less than I'm putting in I simply MUST lose weight!

This is an amazing post. I get so fed up with people on dieting forum's that are telling people they are eating too few calories and losing weight. What is really going on is people are depriving themselves and overeating later OR not accurately reporting calories. calories burned>calories consumed! Weight loss is that simple physically. Psychologically its hard!

About an hour into his broadcast of 11 September 1960, Jean Shepherd's engineer brought to his attention the “Fall is the springtime of the mind.”

I believe that this ultimately derives from Chapter 5 of Schopenhauer's Counsels and Maxims, in which he says, first, “Nay, in the spring of life, as in the spring of the year, the days reach a length that is positively tiresome; but in the autumn, whether of the year or of life, though they are short, they are more genial and uniform.” and then that “the period immediately preceding the weakness and troubles of old age” is “the springtime of the mind”.

Hello,
I just wanted to say I found your blog(s) this afternnon, and have spent the rest of the day reading them from 'cover to cover'!
So funny, you had me laughing out loud many times - but also some of the most sensible and balanced views of weight loss and dieting that I have seen in some while.
Keep up the good work - I hope you continue to write, even after you reach your goal. It would be a shame to lose such a refreshing and sane voice from the otherwise mad world of internet diets!
